This is how we work out a quote:

01 Length of text

Unless otherwise agreed, our calculation will be guided by the quantity of your source text. Since page layout and images make it difficult to produce a precise calculation based on the number of pages in a document, we work with standard pages and standard lines. A standard page consists of 30 standard lines. One standard line has 55 characters, i.e. characters including spaces.

02 Type of text

Technical manuals are crammed with specialist terms, whereas advertising slogans are all about wit and creativity. Very different skills are required to get the exact right translation. So we cannot tell just from the amount of text how much work will be involved, which is why we also analyse text type to estimate the time needed for translation.

03 Deadlines

Sometimes things have to be done quickly. At why vanilla? we’re well aware of this and we’re also here to help you when you’re under time pressure. However, since meeting tight deadlines usually involves more effort, this may affect the price.

Always included: Proofreading

We always focus on the highest quality, which is why we work with the four-eye principle. We will only deliver a translation once it has been checked by a second person. This means you can rest assured that not only is everything accurate as regards content, but also that the right tone has been set – and of course at native speaker level.

What is a standard line?
Standard lines are used to calculate the amount of text on a page regardless of layout and image components. A standard line consists of 55 characters including spaces and a standard page is comprised of 30 standard lines.
What exactly is proofreading?
For translations we use the four-eye principle which means that one person translates and afterwards a second person carefully reviews the translation. Proofreading is the careful reviewing of the translation which enables us to ensure the highest quality with native speaker accuracy.
What exactly is editing?
When editing your text, we will examine it inside out, this includes proofreading for spelling, punctuation and grammar. In addition, we polish the writing until it is brilliant, which means striking the exact right tone so that your message is driven home – and again we rely on the four-eye principle.
What’s involved in producing good translations?
Translating involves transferring a word from one language into another. That sounds logical, doesn’t it? However, there is so much more to a good translation than simply swapping vocabulary. At why vanilla? our expert linguists care about nuances, cultural specificities, exact terminology and subtleties of style, which is why the translation we produce will read nothing like one.
